Perfect Camping Coffee

Making perfect coffee is a very subjective topic, everyone has a preferred make of coffee, strength, and brewing method.  I love coffee and have had excellent perked coffee, drip coffee, pressed coffee but when camping we have found one method that makes the best tasting and consistent coffee, even better than our $300 commercial machine at home.

The AeroPress  “It’s unique brewing method gives the richest coffee flavour, with less bitterness and acidity, and no grounds left in your cup!”  (quote from the AeroPress website). Using the AeroPress along with grinding fresh beans in the Hario MSS-1B Mini Mill Slim Coffee Grinder is a combination that cannot be beat.

There is a lot of information videos on the internet about the AeroPress, rather than repeat this information  just Google it …. better yet buy one and give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

The only time we make percolated coffee is when we camp. Tastes the best!!!! I think it tastes the best is because of the longer time it takes to make. The aroma that comes out as it starts to boil is like nothing other. And then you have to wait what seems like forever!! In a world where everything is instant, it makes out brains wake up with anticipation. Love it.

I agree Tim, the aroma of perked coffee is great, but you have to try the AeroPress. It also takes time and you get one cup at a time, but like anything good the wait is worth it.

The perfect accessory to the Aeropress is the smallest round Starfrit “Lock & Lock” container. It is the perfect fit for the filters and keeps them both clean and dry while preventing them from spilling all over when you’re making the first cup while still half asleep

I’m a big fan of the aeropress, and use it every day while on the road. Making coffee with it is always something of a science experiment, but it’s produced the best tasting coffee I’ve ever made. A big advantage of this method is the minimal clean-up. Very Easy.
